Why did the French and English emigrate to Canada?

The English emigrated to Canada because they owned Canada at the time, so they wanted to increase their force power. England had the greatest empire at the time, so they had taken control of many countries. The French moved to Canada because Jacques Cartier first discovered Canada. He took possesion of Canada in the name of France. Louis X1V created an immigration program and that led the french over as well as the fact the English were getting stronger and France was not a country ruled by them. The land in Canada was good, so the trading of products was easy for both the french and english. In 1838, Lord Durham wanted to join the Canadas (Upper and Lower Canada) and there was alot more english than french if they were brought together. This created a problem government wise so more French people moved to Canada!
